NO on HB 103
Ohio House Bill 103 has been introduced, which calls for a committee to reccomend new standards for Social Studies in Ohio. The standards that will be used as the foundation for Ohio's proposed standards are the American Birthright Standards that were created by a political organization called the Civics Alliance.
HB 103 promotes the idea of a set of Social Studies standards to be created, using American Birthright standards as the model for what would become our new standards. Among other challenges, this would essentially remove civic engagement from K-12 Social Studies.
The Ohio Council for the Social Studies is firmly opposed to HB 103.
